During song time we sang some stand-by children's songs and played instruments. We also added "I'm a Little Firefighter" (sung to "I'm a Little Teapot") while the kids wore different pieces of Mekiah's firefighter costume. Story time began with a brief Bible story about The Good Samaritan, because firefighters are good samaritans. We colored a page with an injured man and placed a bandaid on his wound and a pillow under his head. We then colored our firefighter worksheets and made a thank you card for the firefighters that we visited on our field trip. We read some stories about firefighters and then practiced stop, drop and roll - a favorite of all the kids! We learned how to use scissors and make small play-doh balls to create "apples" for a tree. We sorted small red toys in an ice cube tray and sorted numbers on a cookie tray. We also learned about Ricky the Rectangle and played musical rectangle/circle (think musical chairs). We played hot rectangle (instead of hot potato) and even put rectangle envelopes in the mailbox while we played mailman. We also went on a rectangle hunt, finding rectangular shaped household items to put in rectangle bags. I think though that the kids liked most the games at the end of the day that we played until their mommies came to pick them up - duck, duck goose and simon says.
Our tot school focus this month is the color red, rectangles and the letter A (crafts for next time). Hopefully the kids enjoy this and continue learning.
Today we went on our field trip to the fire station and the kids loved it. Here's a preview of our school.
